Innovation is happening all over Scotland right now, and we’ve loved seeing the conversations unfold while celebrating Scotland’s National Innovation Week, and all the brilliant ideas and breakthroughs happening across the country.

What does innovation mean to us?

At Dog, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on what innovation means to us. So, we asked our teams to share their thoughts on how it shows up in their sectors, find out what it is and what is isn’t, and what innovative thinking brings to their day-to-day life at Dog.

Here's what the team had to say...

“As a digital producer at Dog, innovation is all about shaping what's next and reimagining how we tell stories, solve problems, and engage audiences. It's not just about answering a brief, innovation goes beyond the brief. It addresses a challenge or challenges, with a solution that surprises and connects on a deeper level. Whether it’s building interactive online experiences, making an immersive creative campaign, or streamlining workflows to deliver faster and smarter, innovation means being brave enough to experiment, fail fast, and learn quickly. Innovation keeps our work fresh, relevant, and impactful - and it's something that I try to embrace in my day-to-day at Dog.”
Amy - Digital Producer

“For us at Dog, innovation isn’t about chasing shiny trends. It’s about fresh ways of thinking, new ways to tell stories, and finding smarter, braver ideas that make an impact. That starts with interrogating the brief, challenging what’s expected, and then using our Insight to Impact process to push things further. Whether that means experimenting with AI tools or hacking together new approaches, it’s that mix of curiosity and creativity that keeps the work moving forward.”
Ed - Creative Director

"Innovation isn’t about jumping on the bandwagon that everyone else is following. After years of pitching ideas and concepts, it’s become something quieter and more personal. Innovation is the stubborn spark that keeps you trying to make things better even when no one’s asking. It’s the craft of finding something new, a smarter way to tell a story, or a new angle in a brief. It’s not flashy or showy, it’s persistence. The small everyday act of striving for better is its own kind of progress. For me, innovation is simply refusing to stand still. Mind you, this was created by ChatGPT so swings and roundabouts eh?"
George - Head of Copy and Concepts

“Innovation is more important than ever in Client Services, especially in a world where budgets are increasingly under pressure. We’re focused on adding value at every touchpoint: anticipating needs before they’re voiced, challenging the “usual way,” and planning the decisions that shape what’s next for our clients. We need to make the minutes count, protect the conditions for great work to shine, and use open-book scoping to give clients clarity. That’s how service becomes partnership with our long-standing clients, and how we enable our teams to deliver standout work.”
Laura - Head of Client Services

“In a web analytics context, innovation is not about using the latest tools or gathering vast amount of data. Innovation could mean rethinking how data is collected, processed, and used to balance compliance with privacy regulations while still delivering actionable insights for campaign or organic performance. Instead of seeing compliance as a limitation, view it as a catalyst for building trust and strengthening data quality. The future of web analytics lies not in collecting more data, but in asking better questions.”
Christophe - Insights and Technical Analytics Manager

"Innovation is a core principle that drives everything we do in marketing. In today’s fast-paced and constantly shifting marketing landscape, staying ahead of trends and anticipating change is essential. Our clients rely on us not only to respond to the market but to lead it. That’s why we embed innovative thinking into every stage of a campaign, from initial strategy and concept development through to execution and performance analysis. Whether it's adopting emerging technologies, rethinking creative approaches, or exploring new channels, we are continually pushing boundaries to deliver standout results and future-proof solutions for our clients."
Erinn - Senior Content Marketing Manager

"Innovation is ever present in technology. Frameworks, languages and methodologies are always evolving but that doesn't always mean I'm chasing after the latest thing. Innovating involves continual prototyping, testing, experimenting and failing, but ultimately finding new exciting ways to push our technology forward to keep up with the pace of change."
Stephen - Head of Technology

A simple question of “What does innovation mean to you?”, sparked a lively and thoughtful conversation across the office. As an agency operating in Scotland’s competitive digital landscape, we’re incredibly proud to be part of a community that not only supports one another but also continually pushes creative and technological boundaries. It’s inspiring to contribute to work that drives innovation forward and helps shape the future of digital in Scotland.
