With over 8 million visitors per year and over 7,500 league teams, Powerleague Group is the UK’s most popular 5- and 7-a-side football league providers.
However, team captains often find it hard to build a reliable squad, and this has a knock-on effect for other teams and customers. Powerleague needed to find a way to help its customers find new players in the vicinity of their soccer centres, and quickly. Also, to encourage new individual customers to join who do not have a team to play with, and to form new teams from individual players.
With a successful league product, Dog sought to add value by creating an industry first digital team matching service available on both desktop and via mobile device.
The intuitive tool enables team captains and players to register and create adverts based on location, availability, skill level & position. The searchable database matches players with teams, and vice versa. And initial communication occurs through Playermatch to make sure contact details remain secure. The user experience was intuitive, and design guided visitors through the process.
With over 6,500 registered users within the first few months, Playermatch is saving league games and improving the 5-a-side league experience for all Powerleague customers.
Playermatch continues to be a huge success. It has improved team retention, increased the number of registered new teams, and league turnout has increased by 23% since its launch. And the project was shortlisted for Digital Platform of the Year at the 2015 BT Sport Industry Awards. Result!
